Get Ready for Black Dragon Mage Action: A Dark Fantasy Adventure
Tumblr media
Black Dragon Mage action roguelite shooter game will hit Proton for Linux and Steam Deck first, via Windows PC. All thanks to the brilliant creativity of developer datablob. Plunging onto Steam Early Access this week. Prepare yourself, folks — Black Dragon Mage action is landing on Steam this December 4, 2024. Doing so with over 13,000 players already diving into the demo, this roguelite shooter is gearing up to be something truly special. Developed by German solo indie dev datablob, this title mixes dark fantasy vibes with gorgeous pixel art, chaotic battles, and a sprinkle of 16-bit nostalgia. Plus, it’s due to hit Windows PC with support for Steam Deck and Linux via Proton. Here's why.
...the Linux player build has some wonky UI issues with a cursor offset as well as other input problems and minor display that I can't quite wrangle in this short time before the EA launch. But I would love to support Linux natively somewhere along the road to Black Dragon Mage 1.0 and it has always been on my list of priorities to keep testing.
Turns out, the UI issues are automagically sorted out in that setup. Of course, they'll keep sending reports to Valve and Unity to iron things out further — and hey, who knows, this might even help fix other games along the way. It’s always great to see a dev willing to go the extra mile and offer a native build for their title. Props to datablob.
What’s the Deal with this Black Dragon Mage action?
At its core, this is a fast-paced top-down roguelite shooter where you wield elemental magic, fight off massive hordes, and even hatch and ride dragons into battle. Where you are due to start with Talon, a black dragon, and Ignilith, a fiery red beast. Both ready to unleash chaos on your enemies. Fly into the fray, escape tight spots, or simply dominate the battlefield with their unique powers. This title is all about player choice, smart strategy, and big flashy moments. Inspired by hits like Vampire Survivors, 20 Minutes Till Dawn, and even Diablo. Black Dragon Mage is perfect for anyone who like testing builds and the action of blasting through waves of enemies.

What Makes It So Great?
Dragons Galore: Hatch, ride, and command dragons as ultimate companions. Need a quick getaway? Hop on and soar out of trouble. Want to crush your foes? Use your dragon’s powerful ultimates.
Magic Everywhere: Toss fireballs, shoot icy orbs, or zap enemies with lightning. Each spell has upgrade paths, so you can tweak your powers to suit your style.
Endless Variety: With procedurally generated maps, no two runs are the same. Explore deserts, cemeteries, and other deadly biomes filled with hazards and surprises.
Epic Boss Fights: From giant cyclops gods to skeletal Nordic warriors, the bosses in Black Dragon Mage will push the action and your skills to the limit.
Custom Builds: Unlock new weapons, perks, and upgrades to create the ultimate mage. Whether you’re slinging spells or smashing foes with arcane hammers, there’s something for everyone.
Meet the Mages
Start your journey with Quinn, a classic chaotic mage who wields elemental staves. But there’s more! Early Access introduces Schmiedrun, a dwarven engineer mage with a knack for crafting deadly tools. She’s also bringing her bouncing arcane hammers and turret-building skills to the mix. Due to offer a whole new playstyle.
youtube
Why Early Access?
Launching in Early Access gives datablob the chance to refine the game with player feedback. So, expect frequent updates, balancing tweaks, and exciting new content to keep the adventure fresh. Oh, and did I mention there’s a 20% launch discount off of the $5.99 USD / £4.99 / 5,89€ cost on Steam. While offering support for Steam Deck and Linux via Windows PC with Proton, for now.
Final Thoughts
If you’re a fan of action roguelites and you like dragons, Black Dragon Mage support is here to make your life even better. Whether you’re riding into battle, tweaking your build, or exploring infinite maps, this game is ready to deliver nonstop thrills. Due out on December 4th!

Folks talking about Game Devs dropping Unity or how it won't hurt small indie devs with under 200,000. Are missing the point.
Some of these Unity games can't change to another engine because they have years of code piled on top of each other at this point. aka POKEMON GO. They'd basically have to rebuild the game from scratch.
Not to mention Unity is mostly used by phone app games or Indie's that are lucky enough to get picked up by console. Indie games on Mobile easily pass 200,000 downloads. Temple Run 1 and 2 are in Unity, Crossy Road, Angry birds 1 and 2, and Hearthstone. All of these past 200,000 downloads years ago but aren't bringing in money now except hearthstone.
The Developers will do what happened to the first Angry birds app. They'll take it down, build it in a new engine for "HD", and add a shit ton of micro transactions. We are about to lose countless original versions of the OG pre lootbox mobile games.
We are also about to lose some of the biggest Indie games of the last decade. Among Us, Plague Inc., 7 Days to die, the original Slenderman game and it's sequel, I am Bread, Ori and the Blind Forest, Dream Daddy, Overcooked 1 & 2, Pathfinder online, Cup Head, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Oxygen Not Included, Bloons Tower Defense 6, Beat Saber, Subnautica, The Stanley Parable, Untitled Goose Game, Power Washing Simulator, Fall Guys, Inscryption, Phasmophobia
And the big one FUCKING HOLLOW KNIGHT. Silk song has already been pushed back out of this year specifically because it's being made by a team of like 3 people. It is so close to being finished and now they are being told they have to start over from scratch basically. Hollow Knight got over 200,000 downloads from being on playstation and was eventually put on Playstations subscription service. Every cent they made from hollow knight has gone back into making silk song. Which might now be delayed by multiple years and oh they are going to have to use some of that funds to pay unity now. Or find a way to get out of a contract with playstation. Because folks will keep downloading Hollow Knight for free and Unity will send the Hollow Knight team the bill.
oh and there's one more teeny tiny game made in Unity that you guys might not want to suddenly disappear. One with almost 3 years of monthly code updates, one with 139 million downloads to date, and 4.8 million monthly users.
Genshin. Guys Genshin Impact is made completely in Unity and that's not a game that can have it's code just copy and pasted to another engine.

Not too keen on how the first scene of HotD made show-only viewers think that Aegon the Conqueror diplomatically convinced Torrhen Stark to give up Northern independence because they both believed in stopping a prophesized apocalyptic Long Night because it downplays the brutality of Aegon's Conquest.
Not the show's fault since it is realistic that Cregan and Jace would frame it like an amiable peacetalk given their current goals and circumstances (and they did touch on the intimidation aspect of it). But show-onlies don't get the context that:
Torrhen was the person who started a dialogue with Aegon I, not the other way around.
Aegon didn't fly North to meet with Torrhen. Torrhen was the one who marched south with his armies to stop the man who was burninating the entire countryside.
Because he was marching south, Torrhen saw the utter carnage of Aegon's Conquest. At least three entire dynasties of kings were extinguished at that point. Torrhen was thus faced with the possibility that the entire Stark line would be wiped out like them if he fought.
Aegon and Torrhen exchanged letters at the Riverlands when both their armies were about to meet, but those weren't what convinced Torrhen to kneel. Torrhen had to actively stop his brother Brandon from attacking Aegon's dragons when they got there. The Northern King had already made his mind prior to talking to Aegon that he didn't want to fight.
Aegon's Conquest wasn't him making buddy-buddy with the 6 kings. It was him and his sister-wives intimidating them into submission by threatening to wipe out their families.

Happy Art Monday!
Started at the end of last year, this piece underwent several reworkings and additions until completion due to delays during the holiday season. Originally intended for posting before the year's end, circumstances led to its completion a few days later, marking the new year with another addition to my Andromeda Six fanart collection.
'Close your eyes' portrays a pivotal moment in the relationship between the main character, Jiro, and Vexx from the game Andromeda Six. The two Kitalphan men, Jiro and Vexx were a couple before the treacherous coup shook their bond. Despite the turmoil, Jiro eventually realized Vexx was a victim as much as he was, and their love rekindled amidst the trials faced aboard the Andromeda Six.
While Nat' embodied boldness and Rina exuded emotional depth, Jiro stands as the most gentle and tender of my OCs so far. His tendency to avoid problems in hopes of their disappearance contrasts the harsh reality that he faces.
This artwork captures a crucial scene where the main character is falling, and Vexx rushes to catch him before impending danger. Much like the identifying details in previous drawings (the dog tags of Damon and the tattoos of Bash), Vexx's presence is hinted at through a glimpse of his sleeve.
Inspired by the song "Close your eyes" by Digital Daggers, the title encapsulates the essence of the scene, hinting at a moment of trust, protection, and the deep emotional connection shared between Jiro and Vexx amid life-threatening circumstances.
The heartfelt lyrics resonate with the emotional connection shared between the two men, echoing the theme of resilience and solidarity during turbulent times. The imagery portrays a gripping moment where danger looms, yet their unwavering support for each other shines through, depicting a bond strengthened by adversity.
The profound emotions conveyed in the song's lyrics parallel the essence of this artwork, illustrating not only the depth of their connection but also their determination to overcome challenges together. As the song suggests, it echoes the sentiment that despite the chaos surrounding them, their united strength and trust will guide them through the storm.
(Personal notes: As much as I love those hands, I'm not that fond of the background. I'll probably remake it when I'll have some time and I understand how to do what I want.)
Software used: Clip Studio Paint.
"Close your eyes" by Digital Daggers. (On Youtube)
And now I'm gonna take a few minutes to thanks the people who liked, wrote a comment, followed me or rebloged my art since the end of last year.
So here is a huge shout out and thanks to: @broken-little-bhaal-babe, @valkblue, @p0et-is-my-persona, @who-is-riley, @messydiabolical, @rungalwaysheretolisten, @justabadartistlmao, @rasaltav, @ohsotragical, @feydstan, @rachellaurengray, @dramionefeltson, @storyknitter, @kitschycritter, @notrandomatall, @cityofseraphim, @kad-dala, @h3av3nndh3ll, @nony-pandemia, @phans-aesthetic-adventures, @greenberrytea, @princess-paige-place-of-fun, @umbrellaseason, @hathorik, @blackblooms, @chlorhexidini and @mxsunnybop. Each time I saw I had reached one of you, it had brightened my day, so once again, thank you all.
(Unfortunately there was some people I couldn't tag because tumblr didn't let me, so if you are one of them and you see my post, know it is not intentional and thank you.)
I'll try do this more often, it will be easier next time ^^

#is it weird to feel like. second hand bitterness abt the fans of a game franchise i dont even watch/play#like ive seen so many comments abt silksong (not all of which were jokes) never coming out and it always felt so mean spirited to me??#like no shit it took a while its 1) an indie game 2) an indie game with very pretty animation 3) following up a Huge Indie Darling#not even getting into the fucking scare that was that bullshit unity tried to pull which undoubtedly shook production#LIKE. SORRY YALL BUT GOOD GAMES TAKE TIME TO MAKE ESP IF ANIMATION IS SUCH AN IMPORTANT FACTOR#ppl acting like silksong is the modern version of hl3 or whatever when 6 years is. honestly pretty good dev time these days???#like even mainstream games with big teams take just as long so a big indie game coming out in that time frame is wild imo#and if you want it faster its going to either be bc of 1) Crunch 2) a bigger team with less creative control or 3) much smaller scope#i wont pretend the devs shouldnt have maybe waited until later in development to announce it#but thats something everyone in the game industry does; kh3 comes to my mind as a more mainstream example#idk man it just bugs me that ppl love to be all 'we want worse media that takes longer to make' until its an indie hit#and now that it has a proper release window ppl are acting like they knew itd be fine all along#listen man im a fan of valve games and kindom hearts ok you wanna talk abt waiting for sequels then get on my fucking level

After having a writer’s block burnout for two months and taking a hiatus, I’ve finally completed the most massive episode ever for my fanfic visual novel. Packed with lots of action, drama, comedy, and romance.
(I also ask, please pay extra attention to the content warning, episode 5 delves into some sensitive topics that may make some readers uncomfortable.)
Night of Sin: Pride, episode 5 (v3.23) https://nightofsin.itch.io/
- new weapon poses added for some characters - some new characters introduced - new main cg, several new mini-CGs - new sound effects added to improve game experience
Available for Windows PC or you can play the web version online/mobile without downloading anything. Keep in mind, the game doesn’t work on some browsers, so it’s advised that you download different browsers on your computer or phone. So far, Firefox has worked, but Chrome doesn’t work for some newer phones.
Anyways, dark story aside...this is my favorite moment when I finally finish an episode and I can actually ENJOY IT instead of playing through to check for bugs with the coding console open. 🤣
